THE BACCHAE/THE SISTERS OF SEMELE

Directed By: Christina Sheehan

Stage Manager: Bloo Rodriquez

After receiving praise from audiences and critics alike for their smash hit productions of Much Ado about Nothing and Romeo & Juliet in 2014, Queens Shakespeare in partnership with What Dreams May Co brings audiences part 2 of its 2015 Season with a controversial, brutal, modern re-imagining of the classical theatre’s most horrifying yet soul searching work. Join us as we shine the looking glass on men worshiped as gods, vengeful gods walking amongst men, and the destructive might of men turned mob. Next up…Euripides’ The Bacchae.

Director Christina Sheehan (Director of 2013’s critically acclaimed Macbeth) brings audiences back to a ravaged world always on the brink of chaos. Featuring a modern one-act prequel to The Bacchae, The Sisters of Semele by Chris Rivera and set in the same post-apocalyptic universe explored in Julius Caesar, we now Journey to the land of Thebes. A young king is newly come into his rule and a young demigod has newly come into his power. The conflict between these two cousins pitting man VS Maenad, and force VS faith, is at its core two boys throwing a tantrum in trying to prove themselves to the world and to their families. When such squabbles occur between gods and kings the stakes become dangerous, the consequences become deadly.

Classics for a Cause: Every Thursday & Saturday at 10:00PM after the performance of The Bacchae will be a special benefit production of Dog Sees God: Confessions of a Teenage Blockhead by Bert V. Royal. 50% of all proceeds will benefit The Trevor Project, the leading national organization focused on suicide prevention efforts among lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and questioning and other queer youth.

Featuring: Francesca Calo, Cameron Clarke, Madeleine Dauer, Maria Diez, Psacoya Guinn, Jonathan Emerson, Kate Herman, Colin Hinckley, Bryna Kearney, Rhiannan Lattimer, Lisa McGurn, Kate McMorran, Clinton Powell, Pedro Rios, Chris Rivera, Maddie Sykes, Marshall Taylor Thurman

DOG SEES GOD: CONFESSIONS OF A TEENAGE BLOCKHEAD by Burt V. Royal

Directed By: Chris Rivera & Bloo Rodriguez

Stage Manager: Emily Thaler

After every Thursday and Saturday performance of The Bacchae, Queens Shakespeare will be presenting a special benefit performance of Burt V. Royal’s Dog sees God: Confessions of a Teenage Blockhead. Half of all proceeds will benefit The Trevor Project, the leading national organization focused on suicide prevention efforts among lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and questioning youth.

Co-Directors Chris Rivera (Director of 2014’s critically acclaimed Romeo & Juliet and our smash hit production of Julius Caesar earlier this season) and Bloo Rodriguez (Assistance Director of Julius Caesar and Assistant Director of The Secret Theater’s sellout production of Macbeth) take us back to a time in which millennials where called something different, high school students. A place where labels turn whole people into nothing more than their respective cliques: jock, bully, stoner, geek, and queer. Using the fashion and musical stylings of the late ‘90s/early 2000s and asking the question “what if the eternal children from the comics we read grew up?” provide the perfect vehicle for a flashback to a time where things should have been simple, but never were. A time where you were “different” in a school filled with people who all pretend to be the same.

Classics for a Cause: 50% of all proceeds for Dog Sees God: Confessions of a Teenage Blockhead will benefit The Trevor Project, the leading national organization focused on suicide prevention efforts among lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and questioning and other queer youth.

What Dreams May Co. in association with Queens Shakespeare Inc presents

Romeo & Juliet

By William Shakespeare

Directed By Chris Rivera

“These violent delights have violent ends, And in their Triumph die, like fire and powder, Which as they kiss consume.”

After receiving praise from audiences and critics alike for their smash hit season opener Much Ado About Nothing, What Dreams May Co continues their exploration into the dangers and the delights of love. It's risks, it's rewards, it's passion and it's price. Join us for the finale of our 2014 season as we bring to life this timeless couple whose tale embodies all these qualities with uproarious laughter, with unrestrained joy, and with unfathomable sorrow.

Director Chris Rivera brings literatures most famous and most tragic pair of star-crossed lovers into a gritty modern fantasy. Audiences will find themselves pulled into a world where religion turns the pages, family politics pulls the strings, and lives lived by the sword…are ended by it.

The set design will feature paintings by acclaimed multimedia artist Matthew Emerson which will enhance the feeling of being pulled into the storybook. All artwork featured during the production will be auctioned throughout the course of the production and 75% of all proceeds will benefit Trinity Place Shelter for homeless LGBT youth.

The Queens Players Presents Richard III

The Queens Players presents

Shakespeare's Richard III
February 27th - March 15th

The Queens Players began their 2013-14 season with a thrilling Midsummer, and are looking forward to presenting a Punk-infused version of this classic history play featuring Shakespeare's iconic villain, Richard III.

A scheming sociopath grabs the crown through fratricide, but such extreme measures cannot bring lasting pleasure. Indeed, Richard meets a famously inglorious end at Bosworth.

In this production, The Queens Players substitute the storied courts of England for the gloomier confines of a punk club in England circa 1980s. The character of Richard III will be played by The Queens Players' Artistic Director Richard Mazda, who comes to the project straight after a homerun performance of Fagin in the Secret's sold out hit run of Oliver!. Alberto Bonilla, The Queens Players' Associate Artistic Director, will direct.

This season we are pleased to announce collaborations with famed fine artist and designer Luba Lukova and Project Runway finalist and costume designer, Sue Waller.

TICKETS: $18, available online, by contacting the Box Office at 718.392.0722, and at the door.
